Benson American Legion

Post #454 was chartered the first time in January 1920. There were fifteen original members. The Post was reorganized September 24, 1945 and the charter was granted in April 1946 with 86 members. The Auxiliary members were chartered in April of 1946 with 10 members. The Sons of the American Legion was chartered in 1997 with 35 members. Martin Moritz and Lawrence Toole were active in setting up the new Post.

Post #454 has maintained 100% membership for the majority of the past years. The Post has always been active in community services, has sent many young boys to Boys State and honored many young boys and girls at the Roanoke-Benson Jr. High School with the Citizenship Award.

Each year, Post #454 has a Memorial Day Service at the Clayton Township Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Memorial Day.

The Sons of the American Legion have a breakfast every 3rd Sunday of each month for the community and surrounding area from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
